FAQ
What is Sports Chiropractic and why is it different than traditional chiropractic?
Sports Chiropractic is a sub-specialty that focuses on musculoskeletal conditions as it relates to sports medicine and injury. Sports Chiropractors are some of the highest trained sports medicine physicians and specialize in acute and chronic injuries of the body, including the extremities and the spine. Traditional chiropractors typically do not have this training, and focus mainly on generalized spinal pain and neurologic function. On top of traditional spinal adjustments, Sports Chiropractors typically use several different manual therapies to treat muscles, tendons, ligaments, joint, and nerve pain.
What is Active Release Technique and what is it used for?
Active Release Technique, or A.R.T., is a patented soft tissue manual therapy that is now considered the gold standard in soft tissue evaluation and treatment. It is used by every professional sports team and is frequently the go-to method for treating tight/sore muscles and painful adhesions caused by overuse injuries.
Are you board certified?
Yes, the entire team is board certified with the North Carolina Board of Chiropractic Examiners. Dr. Evan Kahn is a board certified sports chiropractic physician. He holds a Diplomate from the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians, which is the highest achievable certification in Sports Chiropractic. Dr. Kahn is one of only two chiropractors in the state of North Carolina with this achievement, and the only one in the Triangle.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, all three sports chiropractors are in-network with most major insurance companies, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Aetna, Medcost, VA, and others. Dr. Bessette is in-network with United Healthcare/UMR. We are a non-participating provider with Medicare.
What are your cash rates?
If you don't have insurance, we do offer cash rates for services rendered. Cash, or “self pay,” rates are discounted at 30% of what is billed to an insurance company. Most patients can expect a new patient appointment to cost anywhere from $150-$175 depending on the services rendered. Subsequent visits typically range from $60-$100 per appointment.
Is Dry Needling covered by insurance?
As of now, insurance companies do not cover dry needling as a service. For that reason we have self pay rates for dry needling services. The cost is $70 for a session, or if you are bundling it with other services, the cost is reduced to $49.
How much for the TPI or Functional Movement Assessments?
The Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) screen and Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) are typically performed together and cost $225 for a 1-1.5 hour long examination, and will include treatment as well as any exercises given to you via the specialized TPI mobile app. Currently they are only performed by Dr. Kahn, and they are separate from other chiropractic services.
